West Country Breweries Ltd tin tray dating from the 1960s. The brewery was based in Cheltenham, Gloucesteshire.
West Country Breweries Ltd tin tray dating from the 1960s. The Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd merged with the Stroud Brewery Co. Ltd in 1958. The Company was named West Country Breweries Ltd in 1961. The Company, with 1,300 public houses was acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd in 1963. West Country Breweries Ltd was liquidated in 1964 although the name continued to be used until 1968. The Stroud Brewery ceased brewing in 1967 although the site was used as a Whitbread depot until 1969. Whitbread & Co. Ltd merged the business with Flowers Breweries Ltd in 1968, and renamed the Company Whitbread Flowers Ltd. The old Cheltenham Orginal Brewery closed in 1998. The site was demolished in 2004 and is now a shopping centre. The manufacturer's mark states - Made in Great Britain by Reginald Corfield Ltd. 4515
