Truswell's Brewery Co. Ltd black backed steel tray dating from 1937. Richard Truswell founded the brewery on Eyre Street in Sheffield in the early 19th century. Richard was joined in partnership by John Walker. Trading as Truswell & Walker, William Unwin joined the business in 1847. He ran the firm and was responsible for its expansion by acquiring 23 tied houses between 1849 and 1865. The Company was registered as Truswell's Brewery Co. Ltd in 1865 when it brewed bitter, mild ales, porter and stout. The purchase of tied houses continued apace when 60 properties were acquired between 1866 and 1940. In 1955 Truswell's with 50 public houses was acquired by the ever-growing Hope & Anchor Breweries Ltd of Sheffield. The Eyre Street Brewery was sold to the Sheffield Corporation. The brewery was demolished in 1960. The manufacturer's mark states - "Hancor" Mitcham Made in England. The tray featured was one of many produced for breweries all over Britain to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI in 1937.
