Timothy Taylor & Co. Ltd alloy tray dating from the 1950s. Timothy Taylor established his business on Cook Lane in the centre of Keighley in 1858, brewing in partnership with James Shakleton and John Naylor. In 1863 Timothy Taylor bought out his partners and built the Knowle Spring Brewery and maltings, with the financial assistance of his father-in-law, Robert Aked. In 1894 a deep well was sunk and the brewhouse was extended. In 1911 a new fermentation vessel was built to meet the Company's sales growth. In 1928 Timothy Taylor's won its first brewing championship awards but also put the Knowle Spring Brewery up for sale. Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd's bid to buy the brewery was withdrawn and although brewing continued, the firm stopped its malting activities. The business was registered as Timothy Taylor & Co. Ltd in 1929. In 1952 the Company's famous Landlord Beer was first brewed. Timothy Taylor's acquired and installed a brewhouse purchased from the closed Oldham Brewery Co. Ltd in 1991, starting a 20 year investment programme to cater for Landlord's growing popularity. Timothy Taylor & Co. Ltd continued to win awards for the quality of its ales during every decade from its first award in the 1920s including Challenge Cup Winners in 1960, 1968 and 1972. It remains as an independent brewer with 19 public houses.
