St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd black backed steel tray dating from 1937. The company is based in St Austell, Cornwall.

St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd black backed steel tray dating from 1937. Walter Hicks was founded as a wine merchant and maltster in 1851 and began brewing at the Seven Stars Inn at St Austell in 1863. In 1867 Walter purchased the freehold of the London Inn where he established a modern steam brewery. A new brewery was built on a site in Trevarthian Road in 1893. In 1910 the business was registered as Walter Hicks & Co. Ltd. Walter Hicks & Co. Ltd merged with Christopher Ellis & Son Ltd of Hayle in 1934 forming the St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd. Brewing ceased at Hayle in the same year. Bath Ales Ltd brewery with its tied houses was purchased in 2016. St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd is still brewing independently with 150 tied houses. The manufacturer's mark states - Hancor. Mitcham. Made in England The tray pictured is to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI in 1937. Many trays of this design were produced for British breweries for the King's Coronation.
