Spring Vale Brewery Ltd ceramic jug dating from the 1900s. The Spring Vale Brewery was founded in Darwen by William Crook. The water for brewing was supplied by the nearby Pilgrim Spring. By the 1890s the business was being run by William's brother John Crook. The firm traded as John Crook & Co. The Company was purchased by Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd in 1898 with about 70 public houses and was registered as the Spring Vale Brewery Co. Ltd in 1899. Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd sold the brewery to Nuttall & Co. Ltd in 1901.
