Rochdale & Manor Brewery Ltd black backed steel tray dating from the 1920s. The business on Molesworth Street, Rochdale, was originally owned by Thomas Sutcliffe who was an ale and porter brewer. Although the firm's foundation date is unclear, Thomas Sutcliffe was certainly brewing on the premises by the 1860s. The Company was registered as the Rochdale & Oldham Brewery Co. Ltd in 1887. In addition to its brewery in Rochdale, the firm also had premises on Shore Street in Oldham. A new Company was registered as the Rochdale & Manor Brewery Ltd in 1895 to acquire the Rochdale & Oldham Brewery Ltd and John Henry Twigg's Manor Brewery of Salford. The new Company's estate totalled 230 public houses and the Manor Brewery was closed. The brewery was acquired by Samuel Smith Old Brewery (Tadcaster) Ltd in 1948 and brewing ceased in 1974. The manufacturer's mark states - Griffiths & Browett Ltd, Makers, Birmingham & London.
