J.W.Hemingway Ltd tin tray dating to 1955. The brewery was based on York Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire.
J.W.Hemingway Ltd tin tray dating to 1955. The business was founded in 1866. John Hemingway was operating a brewery on Regent Street, Leeds by 1877. In 1898 the Company was being run on Beckett Street by Albert Hemingway. From about 1900 Hemingway's brewery was based on York Road, Leeds and was being run by William Hemingway. In 1923 John William Hemingway took over the business until his death in 1946. The Company was registered as J.W.Hemingway Ltd in 1949. The Company, its York Road brewery, and five public houses, were acquired by Tetley Walker Ltd, then part of Allied Breweries Ltd, in 1967. Brewing ceased in 1969. The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road. London. S.W.19. The tray pictured is almost identical to another tray produced in 1955 except for some slight colour variation
