The City Brewery was founded in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear, by the Robinson family in 1754. in 1874 parts of the City Brewery were rebuilt.
The business traded as Robinson Brothers & Howe until George Howe's death in 1892.
The Company was registered as Robinson Brothers (Brewers) Ltd in 1894
In 1909 the brewhouse was totally detroyed by fire and had to be rebuilt.
It acquired jointly by C.Vaux & Sons Ltd and James Calder & Co. (Brewers) Ltd in 1925 with 63 tied houses and was closed.
Residential flats were built on the original site.
