Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd tin tray dating from 1958. The business was registered as the Leeds & Wakefield Breweries Ltd in 1889 to amalgamate the Melbourne Brewery of Kirk, Matthews & Co. Ltd, Leeds, and Carter & Sons Victoria Brewery of Wakefield with 67 tied houses. The name was changed to Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd in December 1957. The Melbourne Brewery and 245 public houses were acquired by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd in 1960 and brewing ceased in 1961. Melbourne's iconic bowing courtier trademark can still be seen in and around Leeds.
