McEwan-Younger Ltd tin tray dating from around 1955. McEwan-Younger Ltd was registered on 19th June 1931 to handle all military and naval contracts, and overseas business of William McEwan & Co. Ltd and William Younger & Co. Ltd both based in Edinburgh. The two companies had earlier in the same year merged to form Scottish Brewers Ltd. William McEwan & Co. Ltd had previously won a far greater share of the UK's export and military markets and this was recognised by the formation of this new Company. Both breweries would provide their beers to the new sales Company at cost and 75% of the profits made by McEwan-Younger Ltd would go to William McEwan & Co. Ltd. During and after WWII McEwan-Younger's overseas trade was poor and by 1955 there was a realisation that its export market might never recover. As a consequence the Abbey Brewery in Edinburgh, which had been working mainly for McEwan-Younger Ltd, was closed down by Scottish Brewers Ltd and turned into offices. It appears that McEwan-Younger Ltd ceased trading around 1956 and little more is known about the company's history. The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd.Lombard Road.London.S.W.19.
