J.J.Young & Sons Ltd ashtray probably dating from the 1920s. The Victory Brewery was based in Landport, Portsmouth, Hampshire.
J.J.Young & Sons Ltd ashtray probably dating from the 1920s. The business was formed by Daniel Ford in Landport, Portsmouth, in 1830. The Victory Brewery, which was originally known as the St. Thomas Brewery, was purchased by J.J.Young in 1860. The Company was registered as J.J.Young & Sons Ltd in 1902. The Victory Brewery and its 86 public houses were taken over by George Peters & Co. Ltd in 1914. George Peters & Co. Ltd was a brewer and a wine merchant. It had closed the brewing arm of the business in 1910 but continued to operate the Young's Victory Brewery after its purchase. In 1959 George Peters & Co. Ltd was acquired by Friary Meux Ltd and brewing ceased at the Victory Brewery. The manufacturer's mark states - Mintons Est 1793 England
