John Ainley & Sons Ltd tin tray dating from the 1950s. The Wapping Spring Brewery was based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
John Ainley & Sons Ltd tin tray dating from the 1950s. The Wapping Spring Brewery was founded in Lindley Moor, Huddersfield, by farmer, John Ainley, in the 1850s. John Ainley's sons also worked for the brewery and the Company was registered as John Ainley & Sons Ltd in 1899. The Company had a reputation for brewing high quality beers using soft water from the Wapping Spring including Wappy Stout, Knockout Ale, and Bitter Beer. Guinness Extra Stout was also bottled on site. The Wapping Spring Brewery, and 19 public houses, was acquired by Samuel Webster & Sons Ltd in 1957 and was closed. The site was sold in 1958 and became a sausage skin factory. It was demolished in the 1960s.
