{"id":5569,"date":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brewerytrays.co.uk\/wp\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5569"},"modified":"2025-10-28T11:28:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T11:28:40","slug":"jennings-brothers-ltd-ceramic-matchstriker","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/brewerytrays.co.uk\/wp\/product\/jennings-brothers-ltd-ceramic-matchstriker\/","title":{"rendered":"Jennings Brothers Ltd Ceramic Matchstriker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jennings Brothers Ltd ceramic matchstriker dating from the 1900s.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Origins of the Business<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Company was established as a family concern in 1828 in the village of Lorton, between Buttermere and Cockermouth in the Lake District.<br \/>\nThe brewery was started by John Jennings, son of William Jennings, a maltster.<br \/>\nJennings brewed exclusively in Lorton until 1874 when it purchased Horace Wyndham&#8217;s Castle Brewery in Cockermouth.<br \/>\nThe Lorton brewery closed in 1881.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jennings Brothers Ltd Registration<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Three Jennings brothers registered the business in 1887 with 41 public houses.<br \/>\nThe Company purchased a number of small local Westmorland breweries in 1921 and Faulder&#8217;s Brewery Co.
