The Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd merged with the Stroud Brewery Co. Ltd in 1958.
The Company was named West Country Breweries Ltd in 1961.
Whitbread & Co. Ltd Takeover
The Company, with 1,300 public houses, was acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd in 1963.
West Country Breweries Ltd was liquidated in 1964 although the name continued to be used until 1968.
The Stroud Brewery ceased brewing in 1967 although the site was used as a Whitbread depot until 1969.
Whitbread Flowers Ltd
Whitbread & Co. Ltd merged the business with Flowers Breweries Ltd in 1968 and renamed the Company Whitbread Flowers Ltd.
The old Cheltenham Orginal Brewery, located on the High Street in Cheltenham, was closed in 1998.
The site was demolished in 2004 and is now a shopping centre.
