The business was founded as the West Auckland Joint Stock Brewery Co. by J.H.Taplin in 1840.
The brewery was located behind the Manor House to the North of West Green in West Auckland.
The Company went into liquidation in 1877 and was bought by a consortium of brewers and malsters which included J.W.Cameron & Co. Ltd.
The new Company was registered as the West Auckland Brewery Co. Ltd.
The brewery maintained its own identity and brewed a range of milds, stouts, and Indian pale ales.
During the Second World War, a few German prisoners of war worked in the brewery.
The brewery was acquired outright by J.W.Cameron Ltd in 1959 with 75 licensed houses, and brewing ceased in 1962.
