The Webb Family Brewing Business
The business was founded in Aberbeeg by William Webb in 1838.
Until the turn of the 20th century the firm traded as Webb Brothers & Co.
In 1900 the Company was registered as J.R. & T.R.Webb Ltd.
The Company's name was re-registered as Webbs (Aberbeeg) Ltd in 1905.
Webb's purchased Welsh brewers the Fern Vale Brewery Co. Ltd in 1949 and continued to operate it until 1970.
The Company also acquired a cider manufacturer, William Evans (Hereford & Devon) Ltd, in the 1960s.
Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd Takeover
The brewery was acquired by Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd in 1960 with 88 public houses.
Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd became United Breweries Ltd in 1962 which then merged with Charrington & Co Ltd to form Charrington United Breweries Ltd in 1964.
Charrington United Breweries merged with Bass, Mitchells & Butlers Ltd in 1967 to form Bass Charrington Ltd which closed the brewery in 1969.
The premises were used as a depot until 1988.
In 1997 the site was demolished.
The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd, Lombard Road, London. S.W.19.
