Russell's Derwent Brewery and Wrangham's Crystal Brewery
The Derwent Brewery was founded in Castlegate in Malton, by the Russell family in 1771, and the Crystal Brewery was founded by William Wrangham, also in Malton, in 1864.
The Derwent Brewery traded under a number of different names including Russell & Witty from 1823 and James Russell & Son in the 1890s.
Russells & Wrangham Ltd Registration
Russells & Wrangham Ltd was registered in 1897 when James Russell & Son acquired William Wrangham Ltd.
Wrangham's Crystal Brewery was closed in 1905 when brewing was centred at the Derwent Brewery.
From 1937 the Company used its famous 'Winner Ales' slogan accompanied by its Jockey and Horseshoe trade mark.
Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd Takeover
The Derwent Brewery was acquired by the Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd in 1958 with 90 public houses.
When Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd was acquired by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd in 1961 the Company was sold to J.W.Cameron & Co. Ltd.
Brewing ceased in 1969.
The Derwent Brewery was demolished in 1985.
The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road.London.S.W.19.
