Robert Knox Founder
The business was founded by Robert Knox in Tullibody in 1786.
In order to be closer to the river transport network, Robert Knox moved to a larger brewery in Cambus, a village near Alloa, in 1792.
With the opening of the Stirling and Dumfermline raliway, and its station at Cambus, the Company built its new Forth Brewery on the North side of the tracks, in 1866.
The brewery was much larger and had its own railway sidings.
The firm sank its own well on the site in 1892 from which extracted its excellent brewing water.
Robert Knox (Cambus) Ltd Registration
The Company was registered as Robert Knox (Cambus) Ltd in 1951.
The business remained in the hands of the Knox family until the death of its last member, Thomas Knox, in 1951.
The brewery passed to the Wilthew family who ran it for three years.
The firm was acquired by Blair & Co. Ltd in 1954, and the Forth Brewery was closed that year..
In 1957 the site was purchased from Blair & Co. Ltd by whisky distiller George P. Christie's North of Scotland Distilling Co.. Christie sold the old brewery buildings to DCL in 1980 and they were demolished in 1982.
The area was redeveloped as a staff car park for the Cambus Cooperage facility.
The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road.London.S.W.19.
The tray featured does not have the word "Limited" displayed leading me to believe that the tray dates from around 1950.
