Foundation of the Business

The business was founded by William Chapman Baker before 1586.
The Croydon Brewery, with 27 licenced houses, was leased by Francis Nalder, his son Howard, and Bristow Collyer from the trustees of Anthony Harman in 1848.

Nalder & Collyers Brewery Co. Ltd Registration

The Company was registered as Nalder & Collyers Brewery Co. Ltd in 1888 with 163 public houses.
In 1891 the freehold was purchased and in 1893 the brewery was completely rebuilt.
The Croydon Brewery was acquired by the City of London Brewery Co. Ltd in 1919 with 170 public houses, and brewing ceased in 1936.
