Formation of the Amalgamated Company
The brewery of Peter Robson was established on Waterworks Street in Hull in 1869, whilst the Crown Brewery of Henry and Charles Moor was established on Francis Street in Hull in 1870.
The two businesses amalgamated in 1888 as Hull United Breweries Ltd.
The Company was renamed Moors' & Robson's Breweries Ltd a few months later.
The firm also traded as a wine & spirit merchant on Raywell Street in Hull.
All brewing was concentrated at the Crown Brewery.
The firm also owned a malt kiln at Low Burbage in Winteringham where it employed a barley buyer.
The 20th Century
The barley store was rebuilt in 1902.
In 1919 the Company purchased two breweries, C.A.Guy & Co. of Grimsby with 3 public houses, and E.D.Nesfield of Scarborough with 33 public houses.
The malt kiln at Low Burbage was sold in 1944.
When Moors' & Robson's Breweries Ltd was acquired and closed by Hewitt Brothers Ltd of Grimsby in 1960, its estate totalled 138 tied houses.
The manufacturer's mark states - Hancock Corfield & Waller Ltd, Mitcham, London.
