The Wapping Spring Brewery was founded in Lindley Moor, Huddersfield, by farmer, John Ainley, in the 1850s.
John Ainley's sons also worked for the brewery when the firm traded as John Ainley & Sons.
The Company was registered as John Ainley & Sons Ltd in 1899.
The Company had a reputation for brewing high quality beers using soft water from the Wapping Spring including Wappy Stout, Knockout Ale, and Bitter Beer. Guinness Extra Stout was also bottled on site.
Wappy Stout was thought to have medicinal properties which was prescribed by local doctors for those individuals with 'a weak constitution'.
The Wapping Spring Brewery, with 19 public houses, was acquired by Samuel Webster & Sons Ltd in 1957.
The brewery was closed and the site was sold in 1958.
It became a sausage skin factory but was demolished in the 1960s when the M62 was constructed.
