J.W.Hemingway Ltd tin tray dating from 1955.
A small brewing business was founded by John William Hemingway in 1866.
By 1877 John was operating a brewery on Regent Street in Leeds.
In 1898 Hemingway's business was being run by John's eldest son, Albert Hemingway, from a brewery on Beckett Street in Leeds.
Founder of the business, John William Hemingway died in 1900.
From about 1900 Hemingway's brewery was based on York Road in Leeds and was being run by John's second son, William Hemingway.
In 1923 William's son, John William Hemingway, took over the business until his death in 1944 when it was run by trustees for the next five years.
The Company was registered as J.W.Hemingway Ltd in 1949.
The firm's trade marks included a double six domino and a sheaf of wheat.
The Company, with its York Road brewery and 5 public houses, was acquired by Tetley Walker Ltd, then part of Allied Breweries Ltd, in 1967.
Brewing ceased in 1969.
