Holder's Early Breweries

In 1867 Henry Holder invested in a brewery which was located in Gem Street, Birmingham.
By 1869 the business moved to New Thomas Street, and a new brewery was acquired.
In 1875 Henry Holder's son, John Charles Holder, took over the running of the business.

The Midland Brewery Nova Scotia Street

In 1889 Henry Holder died, and in that year John moved to another site, the Midland Brewery on Nova Scotia Street, in Birmingham.
John led the business through a period of growth. Sales and production increased significantly, and by the turn of the century, the Company owned 300 public houses.
A bottling plant was built in the early 1890s.
The Company was registered as Holder's Birmingham Brewery Ltd in the 1890s.
In 1900, Holder's acquired the City Brewery Ltd on Cato Street North, in Saltley, adding another 40 public houses to its estate.
The Saltley brewery was sold to the Vale of Evesham Brewery.
Arthur James Price's Lewisham Brewery of West Bromwich, with 30 tied houses, was purchased in 1908.
The Company, with over 200 public houses, was acquired by Mitchells & Butlers Ltd in 1919.
The Midland Brewery was closed in 1923, the year Sir John Charles Holder died.

To be honest I'm not sure whether this is a tray or an advertising plaque/plate but if it's a tray it's a lovely early example
