Origins of the Business
It is claimed that the brewery was founded at the Greyhound Inn, in Market Place, Cromford, by the Higott family in 1825.
Matthew Hill became involved with the brewery in 1878.
Hill's Cromford Brewery Co. Ltd Registration
The Company was registered in 1896 as Hill's Cromford Brewery Co. Ltd to acquire the business of Matthew Hill.
The firm flourished and the brewery was moved to Arkwright's Mill in 1890.
Hill died in 1910 and by that time the firm was suffering financially.
Offilers' Brewery Ltd Takeover
The Company was acquired by Offilers' Brewery Ltd in 1914 which closed the brewery and used it as a depot until 1926.
The site was converted in to a laundry which was demolished in 1968.
