The original brewing business was established on Fore Street in Torquay, in the mid-1850s, at the back of the Palk Arms, and was named the Palk Arms Brewery.
In 1871, the business was purchased by John Greenslade, when it continued to trade as Greenslade Brothers, at the newly named St. Mary Church Brewery.
The firm's 'Waggon & Horses' trade mark was registered in 1883.
One of the firm's most popular beers was called 'Eclipse Stout'.
It is clear that Greenslade's brewed quality beers, as evidenced by its advertising of 'Prize Medal Ales' at the turn of the 20th century.
The St. Mary Church Brewery was acquired by Plymouth Breweries Ltd in 1925, and brewing ceased in 1927.
