The history of the business involved two Companies, Ridler & Son of Clehonger, and William M.Evans of Widemarsh Common, both in Herefordshire.
Ridler & Son of Clehonger
Originally produced at home by the Ridler family, by 1905 Ridler & Son was a recognised Herefordshire cider maker.
William Evans of Hereford
William Evans was established in Hereford in 1850 and moved to larger premises in Widemarsh Common in 1891.
The firm produced both cider and perry products.
In the 1900s the Company purchased a second factory in Devon and traded as William Evans & Co. (Hereford & Devon) Ltd.
The Takeover of Ridler & Son
William Evans & Co. (Hereford & Devon) Ltd purchased Ridler & Son in the late 1940s and the Company name changed to Evans & Ridler Ltd around that time.
In 1946 Welsh brewer, Webbs (Aberbeeg) Ltd, purchased the business, which then sold it to H.P.Bulmer & Co. Ltd in 1960.
