Edmund Parfitt brass tray dating from the 1890s.

In 1897, Edmund Parfitt's Atlas Brewery on Bartholomew Street in Newbury, merged with Thomas Edward Hawkins & Co. West Mills Brewery also in Newbury.
The Company was registered as Hawkins & Parfitt South Berkshire Brewery Co. Ltd.
In 1900 it acquired John Platt & Son's Manor Brewery in Hungerford, and in 1902 it purchased local Newbury brewer Westcombe & Son's St. Nicholas Brewery.
Hawkins & Parfitt's final acquisition was in 1910 when it took over Blandy, Hawkins & Co's Castle Brewery in Reading.
The Company name was shortened to the South Berkshire Brewery Co. Ltd in 1913.
The business, was acquired by H. & G.Simonds Ltd in 1920, with over 150 public houses.
H. & G.Simonds closed the West Mills Brewery, Platt's Manor Brewery, and Blandy, Hawkins & Co's Castle Brewery, in 1920.
The Atlas Brewery continued operating until 1930, when it was closed.
The Company was liquidated in 1936.
