The Castle Rushen Brewery in Castletown
In the 1860s and 1870s, Messrs Quayle and Usher were brewing at the Castle Rushen Brewery in Castletown, on the Isle of Man.
The partnership was dissolved in 1880, and Thomas Frederick Usher continued to run the business on his own.
The brewery was then operated by Theodore Sherlock and Edward Tucker, trading as T.E.Tucker & Co.
After Sherlock's death, Tucker ran the business on his own before he registered the business as the Castletown Brewery Ltd in 1890.
Improvements were made to the brewery soon after registration.
Isle of Man Breweries Ltd
In 1899, The Isle of Man Breweries Ltd, was formed to acquire the Castletown Brewery Ltd, Woolf Brothers Ltd, with its Castle Hill Brewery and mineral water factory, based in Ballaughton, and the Ramsey Brewery Co. of Ramsey.
All brewing activities were concentrated in Castletown.
Castletown Brewery Ltd 1906 to 1986
The Company was re-registered, and renamed the Castletown Brewery (1906) Ltd after its parent Company was liquidated.
The Castletown Brewery was acquired by Hope & Anchor Breweries Ltd in 1946.
It was re-registered as the Castletown Brewery Ltd in 1948, to acquire the Castletown Brewery (1906) Ltd, and Clinch & Co. Ltd (Isle of Man), with its Lake Brewery based in Douglas.
The Company merged with Okell & Sons Ltd in 1986 to form Isle of Man Breweries Ltd, with 34 public houses, and the Castletown Brewery was closed that year.
