The business was founded by William Beamish and William Crawford in 1792.
By 1805 The Cork Porter Brewery was the largest in Ireland.
In 1901 the Company was registered as Beamish & Crawford Ltd.
In the early 1900s the Company expanded further with a number of acquisitions.
In 1939 Beamish & Crawford Ltd purchased Jenner's Brewery Ltd and renamed it the South London Brewery Ltd, selling it five years later.
During the period between 1920 to 1960 the brewery's main products were Beamish Stout & Porter.
The Cork Porter Brewery was acquired by Canadian brewer Carling-O'Keefe Ltd who invested in modernising the brewery.
In 1987 Elders IXL acquired the business. It sold the brewery to Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd in 1995.
In 2008 Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd was taken over by Heineken International, which closed the brewery in 2009.
Brewing was transferred to the former Murphy's Ladywell Brewery, owned by Heineken, also based in Cork.
