Leeds & Wakefield Breweries Ltd bakelite tray dating from the 1940s.

The business was registered as the Leeds & Wakefield Breweries Ltd in 1889 to amalgamate the Melbourne Brewery of Kirk, Matthews & Co. Ltd, Leeds, and Carter & Sons Victoria Brewery of Wakefield with 67 tied houses.
The Melbourne Brewery was based on Regent Street in Leeds.
The name was changed to Melbourne Brewery (Leeds) Ltd in December 1957 when it was run by the Ford brothers.
In 1958 Melbourne's acquired the Derwent Brewery of Russells & Wrangham Ltd in Malton with 90 public houses.
The Melbourne Brewery, with 245 public houses, was acquired by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd in 1960 and brewing ceased in 1961.
The brewery was demolished in 1973.
Melbourne's iconic bowing courtier trademark can still be seen in and around Leeds.
