Machen & Co was established in 1856.
The Company split in 1881 when it was sold and the original owners sons formed C.Machen & Co., which became Hudson & Machen in 1887.
Machen & Co. was acquired by T B Hall in 1897 but continued to trade independently.
The firm was sold to Export Bottlers Ltd in 1936.
The manufacturer's mark states - B.A.T.Co. Ltd Smethwick.4060
I have very few examples of bottler's trays in my collection. I have kept this one due to it's age, rarity and connection with Guinness.
