Foundation of the City Brewery
The City Brewery was founded in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear, by the Robinson family in 1754.
In 1874 parts of the City Brewery were rebuilt.
The business traded as Robinson Brothers & Howe until George Howe's death in 1892.

In 1909 the brewhouse was totally detroyed by fire and had to be rebuilt.
Jointly Acquired by C.Vaux & Sons Ltd and James Calder & Co. (Brewers) Ltd
It acquired jointly by C.Vaux & Sons Ltd and James Calder & Co. (Brewers) Ltd in 1925 with 63 tied houses and was closed.
Residential flats were built on the original site.

Very nice Richard, but are they really ashtrays? I have 3 similar, glass bottom over the brass would be damaged by fag’s. I suspect they are syphon trays. Thoughts?

They could be syphon trays I agree.
I categorised them as ashtrays in the end.
I’d go with anyone’s better judgement. It’s not my expertise.
