The Company was formed through the amalgamation of four breweries.
In 1895 the Scarborough Brewery Co.and the Old Brewery in Scarborough merged to form the Scarborough Brewery Ltd with 63 public houses.
In 1897 this Company amalgamated with Corner & Readman's Marine Parade Brewery in Whitby, and Robert Raine's Esk Brewery, also based in Whitby.
The newly amalgamated Company was registered as the Scarborough & Whitby Breweries Ltd.
Brewing continued in Scarborough until 1953 when the North Street Brewery was acquired by John J.Hunt Ltd with 120 public houses.
Brewing ceased in 1954.
