The Steam Brewery Renamed the City Brewery
The brewery on Maylord Street in Hereford was originally named the Steam Brewery.
The Steam Brewery was acquired from George Home by Robert William Miller in 1887 and was renamed the City Brewery.
The City Brewery, with 80 public houses, was sold to Arnold Perrett & Co. Ltd of Wickwar in 1889. A year later Robert Miller moved to the Stokes Croft Brewery in Bristol.
Robert Miller remained a director of the City Brewery.
The City Brewery continued to operate until 1948 when it was closed by Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd.
The Stokes Croft Brewery in Bristol
The Stokes Croft Brewery was established in 1717 and had been run by ten different owners before Robert Miller's purchase.
Robert Miller bought the brewery from Harvey & Co. in 1890.
For the next three years the business was very successful with its beers sold throughout Britain.In 1893 the firm was registered as R.W.Miller & Co.Ltd.
The firm was consistently awarded brewing medals at Brewers' Exhibitions for a wide range of beers.
The Company was acquired by Bristol Brewery Georges Ltd in 1911 with 48 public houses.
The tray featured was produced for R.W.Miller & Co. City Brewery.
