By 1868 brewer Samuel Renshaw owned the Cornbrook Brewery and he sold it on to

In 1882 the Weld-Blundell family purchased the business and traded as H.Weld-Blundell & Co.
In 1885 the Company was registered as the Cornbrook Brewery Co. Ltd to acquire H.Weld, Blundell & Co.
The Company owned 150 public houses, employed 70 men, used 10 horses, and bottled beer for Bass and Guinness, as well as its own beers.
Post-Registration History

It did however acquire the St. Stephen Street Brewery and tied estate of Mottram's Brewery Ltd of Salford, in 1897. This was followed by the purchase of the Lancashire properties of Boardman's United Breweries Ltd in 1899.
In 1920 and 1938, Cornbrook's Barley Stout was awarded First Prize for its quality.
The firm's most significant acquisition, was that of the Phoenix Brewery Co. Ltd of Heywood, with 127 public houses, in 1937.
In 1950 another beer, Cornbrook Pale Ale, was recognised when the Company was awarded another First Prize at The Brewers' Exhibition held in Edinburgh.
By the late 1950s, the Company owned 265 tied houses.

The Cornbrook Brewery Co. Ltd, with 270 public houses, was acquired by United Breweries Ltd, formely named Northern Breweries Ltd, in 1961.
