Origins and Foundation

The business was founded in 1760 at the Golden Falcon Hotel.
A new Eaton's Brewery was built by Peter Eaton on the same site in the 1850s, and the Company traded as the Chester Northgate Brewery.
Peter Eaton died in 1863 when the business brewed 'Pale, Mild Ales and Porter' beers from its brewery. The firm was also a Maltster and Hop Merchant.
J.H.Fricker took over as the brewery's new Managing Partner in 1864.

Chester Northgate Brewery Ltd Post Registration Trading

In 1889 the business was registered as the Chester Northgate Brewery Co. Ltd.
The firm also owned bottlings stores, wine and spirit vaults on Foregate Street, and malt kilns on the east side of Lower Bridge Street, in Chester.
In 1899 the Chester Northgate Brewery Ltd acquired the Kelsterton Brewery Co. Ltd, with 93 public houses, in Clywd. This enabled the firm to establish a strong foothold in North Wales.
The Kelsterton brewery was wound-up, but the premises were used as a depot until 1922.
The Company, with 140 public houses, was acquired by Greenall Whitley & Co. Ltd in 1949
Brewing ceased in 1969, and the site was demolished in 1971.
An office block named 'Centurion House' now occupies the site on Northgate Street.

The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd London. S.W.19.
