Bristol United Breweries Ltd black backed steel tray dating from the 1930s.

The Company was registered in 1889 to acquire Bowley & Bristow St. Paul's Brewery, Bishop & Butt Ltd Redcliffe Mead Brewery, J.H.Lockley & Sons, Lewins Mead Brewery, and M.Reynolds & Co. Imperial Brewery, based in Bedminster.
Brewing continued at two of the breweries, the St. Paul's Brewery until 1912, and the Lewins Mead Brewery until 1956.
In 1897 Bristol United Breweries Ltd purchased Daniel Sykes & Co. Ltd closing it in 1903.
In 1925 the Company acquired a controlling interest in the Oakhill Brewery Co. Ltd, and brewing ceased in 1938. Oakhill Stout was adopted from the Oakhill Brewery and is featured on the tray.
In 1937 the Company acquired the brewery and maltings of Charlton Brewery Co. Ltd based in Shepton Mallet, later closed by Georges in 1961.
The Lewins Mead Brewery was damaged by a German air attack in 1940.
By the time Bristol United Breweries Ltd, and its Lewins Mead Brewery, was acquired by Bristol Brewery Georges & Co. Ltd in 1956, it had amassed 600 public houses which were also included in the deal. Brewing ceased shortly after the takeover.
The site was used as a sugar factory until 1966.
