The Springhead Brewery
The Springhead Brewery in White Abbey near Bradford, was established by Job Wood in 1837.
Clement Taylor purchased the Springhead Brewery in 1847. The firm traded as Clement Taylor & Son.
In 1861 a new Manningham Brewery on Lumb Lane was built for Clement Taylor & Son.
Hey's Northbrook Brewery
Joseph Hey and his batchelor uncle William, joined together in business under the title of W. & J.Hey in 1874.
They were merchants and bottlers of ales and porter. The bottled beer trade provided a strong foundation for the future success of the firm.
When William retired in 1891 Joseph commenced brewing in partnership with an experienced brewer, Sam Mitchell.
In 1893 the Northbrook Brewery, as it was now named, was acquired by Joseph Hey from Samuel Taylor.
J.Hey & Co. Ltd Registration
The Company was registered as J.Hey & Co. Ltd in 1898.
In 1924 J.Hey & Co. Ltd acquired Joseph Spink & Sons Ltd, with 14 public houses. The Brownroyd Brewery on Rosse Street in Bradford was closed shortly after that.
The Company had a reputation for brewing fine quality bottled ales, and this was rewarded in both 1920 and 1930 when it was awarded the Brewers Championship Gold Cup for best beer in a bottle at the Brewer's Exhibitiion.
The Northbrook Brewery, with 75 public houses, was acquired by Samuel Webster & Sons Ltd in 1966.
Brewing ceased in 1967 and the Northbrook Brewery was demolished.
The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road. London S.W.19.
