Arthur & Bertram Hall Ltd
The Hall family were believed to have brewed on the Quayside of the River Ouse from 1700 to 1750.
In 1771 John Hall purchased the lease of the Three Crowns Inn and brewery located on the Quayside.
The Forehill Brewery in Ely was built by the Hall's between 1869 to 1871.
The firm purchased the Crown Brewery of William Henry Brook of Lincoln, in 1892, and brewing ceased there in 1923.
The Company, with 97 public houses, was registered as Arthur & Bertram Hall Ltd in 1912.
Cutlack & Harlock Ltd
Frank Harlock founded his Quay Brewery in Ely in 1771.
William Cutlack's Littleport Brewery was based on Granby Street in Littleport, Cambridgeshire. His business was certainly trading in the mid 1850s as evidenced by the purchase of the Phoenix Brewery in Priestgate, Peterborough, in 1866.
Cutlack & Co. Ltd, with 23 public houses, was registered in 1896.
In 1897 Cutlack & Co. Ltd purchased the Home Brewery, previously owned by Thomas Stone on Monument Street in Peterborough, from Warwicks & Richardsons Ltd, which retained Stone's public houses.
The Priestgate Brewery was closed when all brewing was transferred to the Home Brewery.
The Littleport Brewery was closed in 1907.
Cutlack & Co. Ltd merged with Frank Harlock in 1917 to form Cutlack & Harlock Ltd.
The Soham Brewery, of Treadway & Percy, was acquired by Cutlack & Harlock Ltd in 1922.
Brewing ceased at the Home Brewery in 1923, and at the Soham Brewery in 1926, leaving Cutlack & Harlock Ltd to continue brewing at Harlock's Quay Brewery in Ely.
Hall, Cutlack & Harlock Ltd
In 1930 Arthur & Bertram Hall Ltd merged with Cutlack & Harlock Ltd to form Hall, Cutlack & Harlock Ltd. The Quay Brewery was closed in 1930, and all brewing was concentrated at Hall's Forehill Brewery.
The Forehill Brewery was completely revamped after the merger, essentially creating a brand new modern brewery.
East Anglian Breweries Ltd
The Company name, East Anglian Breweries Ltd, was adopted in 1950 when Hall Cutlack & Harlock Ltd merged with the Huntingdon Breweries Ltd.
Huntingdon Breweries Ltd had formed in 1932 when Marshall Brothers (Huntingdon) Ltd merged with Jenkins & Jones Ltd and R J & C T Lindsell & Son Ltd. Marshall Brothers were already brewing for both Jenkins & Jones Ltd and Lindsell & Son Ltd at the time of the merger.
Marshall's continued to brew at its High Street Brewery in Huntingdon until 1954.
The Forehill Brewery was acquired by Steward & Patteson Ltd in 1957, which was acquired by Bullard & Sons Ltd in 1961.
Bullard & Sons Ltd was acquired by Watney Mann Ltd in 1964, which closed the Forehill Brewery in 1969.
The manufacturer's makes mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road London. S.W.19. "Regicor" also appears at the bottom right hand side of the tray.
