The Wiveliscombe Brewery was founded by William Hancock in 1807 and was registered as William Hancock & Sons (Wiveliscombe) Ltd in 1896. The Rowbarton Brewery, in Taunton, was founded in 1876, and was registered as S.W.Arnold & Sons Ltd in 1898. The two businesses merged in 1927 to form Arnold & Hancock Ltd.
The Company, with 262 public houses, was taken over by Usher's Wiltshire Brewery Ltd in 1955.
The Rowbarton brewery based in Taunton ceased brewing in 1955, and the brewery in Wiveliscombe ceased brewing in 1959.
