Worksop & Retford Brewery Co. Ltd Ceramic Ashtray

Worksop & Retford Brewery Co. Ltd ashtray probably dating from the late 1940s. The brewery was operated by Garside & Alderson in Worksop until 1877. The Company was registered as the Worksop & Retford Brewery Co. Ltd to acquire the Prior Well Brewery Co. and Smith & Nephew in 1881. Smith & Nephew owned the Cresswell Holme Brewery in Worksop, and the Old Brewery in Retford. The Prior Well Brewery was acquired by Tennant Brothers Ltd in 1959 with 192 public houses. The brewery closed in 1960, and was demolished in 1962. There is no manufacturer's mark and the only words stamped simply say - Made in England
