Thomas Losco Bradley Ltd alloy tray dating from the 1950s. The Brewery was built in New Basford, Nottingham, in 1870 by Abraham Poynton & Co. A.Poynton & Co. was an ale, porter and bitter brewer. Madden & Dell became the new owners of the brewery in 1888 and brewed in New Basford until 1907 when bankruptcy forced them to sell the business to Thomas Losco Bradley, who had brewed at the Barleycorn public house on Raleigh Street since 1895. Bradley's trademark was a Red Lion which it used throughout its trading history. Bradley's built a reputation for its quality of beers and in 1905 won a brewing award, which was emulated in 1928 when its Mild Ale won first prize at the Brewers Exhibition in London. As a result of the Brewers Exhibition win the Company began advertising its products as 'Bradley's Brilliant Ales'. The business was registered in 1928 as Thomas Losco Bradley Ltd. During the 1930s, the brewery flourished, supplying its ales to over 40 tied houses. In addition to its draught ales, Bradley's also produced a range of bottled beers, which were bottled by Hart & Co. in Nottingham. During the fifties, many small brewers were taken over by larger concerns, and Bradleys was no exception. The Midland Brewery and its tied estate was acquired by James Shipstone & Sons Ltd in 1954. The brewery buildings were demolished and the area was redeveloped fot housing in 1964. The manufacturer's mark states - MB 6
