S. & T.N.Blake & Co. Ltd enamel tray dating from the 1910s. The South Cross Street Brewery was based in Gosport, Hampshire.
S. & T.N.Blake & Co. Ltd enamel tray dating from the 1910s. James Blake and Thomas Barrow were partners in a Gosport brewing business in 1814. James Blake established the South Cross Street Brewery in Gosport in 1930. By 1852 James Blakes sons, Samuel and Thomas Naish, were running the business which traded as S. & T.N.Blake & Co. The Company was registered as S. & T.N.Blake & Co. Ltd in 1897. By 1910, the Company owned 22 public houses with many featuring glazed green tiles. The business was acquired by Brickwood & Co. Ltd in 1926 but the South Cross Street Brewery continued to brew until 1935. The Company name was changed to Blake Properties Ltd in 1927 and it was liquidated in 1941. The site was sold to an engineering firm and some buildings were damaged in an air raid during World War II. The area is now occupied by the Gosport Police Station.
