Watkins, Jameson, Pim & Co. black backed steel tray dating from the 1920s. English brewers Richard and Joseph Watkins purchased the oldest brewery in Dublin from the Taylor family in the early 1800s. Evidence suggests that the brewery had existed since 1536. In 1819 Richard and Joseph Watkins joined Alderman Trevor who owned a brewery on Ardee Street in Dublin. The business traded as Trevor & Watkins and by the 1820s it was the third largest brewery in Ireland, By 1888 Joseph Watkins was the sole owner of the Ardee Street Brewery and he traded as Joseph Watkins & Co. In 1904 Joseph Watkins & Co. merged with Jameson, Pim & Co., which had been founded on Anne Street in Dublin in 1715. The new Company was registered as Watkins, Jameson, Pim & Co. Ltd. Most of the brewing concentrated at the Ardee Street Brewery resulting in the closure of Jameson's old porter brewery in 1910. The Company continued to expand and in 1926 it purchased a local rival John D'Arcy & Son Ltd. Watkins entered voluntary liquidation in 1937 and brewing ceased. A fire destroyed some of the brewery buildings in 1951. The site is currently a protected area. The manufacturer's mark states - Hancock. Corfield & Waller Ltd Mitcham London 1/2M 27 F.F.O
