John Wright & Co. (Perth) Ltd tin tray dating from 1960. In 1786 William Wright was one of a small group who built a brewery and formed the Perth Brewing Co. in Perth, Scotland. John Wright, the nephew of William Wright, became the owner of the Company in 1835 and entered into partnership with Robert Currie, his brewer, in 1842. The name of the business changed to Wright, Currie & Co. When Robert Currie died in 1852, John McGrouter became John Wright's sole partner and the Company traded under the name of John Wright & Co. John Wright died in 1859 and, after various other owners. the business was acquired from Duncan Robert Irwin by the brewer R.B.Wallace and lawyer Rober Nimmo, in 1885. John Wright & Co. experienced steady growth and before the First World War it exported its products to the West Indies. In 1925 the firm was registered as John Wright & Co. (Perth) Ltd. In 1926 Wright's took over and closed local rival Muir & Martin and its South Inch Brewery. After 1960, the Company bottled naurally conditioned beers for Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton Ltd, and Worthington & Co. Ltd of Burton-on-Trent. Wright's was also the Scottish agent for Barclay, Perkins & Co. Ltd's Red Label Stout. The Company was acquired by Vaux & Associated Breweries Ltd in 1961 and the brewery was closed in 1964.
