J.Arkell & Sons Ltd tin tray dating from 1966. The Kingsdown Brewery is based in Stratton St. Margaret, Swindon, Wiltshire.

J.Arkell & Sons Ltd tin tray dating from 1966. The business was founded in 1843 by John Arkell at Lower Stratton, near Swindon. A new Kingsdown Brewery was built in 1861 at Stratton St. Margaret, Swindon. In 1877 maltings were erected on the site. In 1927 the Company was registered as J.Arkell & Sons Ltd and a bottling plant was built that year. The Company owns around 100 public houses and is still brewing independently. There is no manufacturer's mark however the tray was most certainly one produced by Hancock, Corfield & Waller. The tray pictured in an original production file copy B2525 dated 4.2.66 The tray pictured is of a similar design to a pre-war tray and also to one that was produced in the 1970s.
