D.S.Ireland Ltd brass tray dating from the 1890s. David Stevenson Ireland took over the running of the Argyle Brewery based in St. Andrews when his father Rea died in 1860. David died in 1890 and the brewery was purchased by a 'syndicate of gentlemen' who registered the Company as D.S.Ireland Ltd in 1893. The brewery was offered for sale in 1900 and was sold to Wilson & Co. bottlers and mineral water manufacturers. The Argyle Brewery was closed in 1902.
