Catterall & Swarbrick's Brewery Ltd tin tray dating from the 1950s. The Queen's Brewery was founded at Poulton-le-Fylde in 1871. After acquiring James Richardson's Newton Springs Brewery based in Hardhorn, the Company was registered as Catterall & Swarbrick's Brewery Ltd in 1894. Brewing was transferred to Hardhorn and the Newton Springs Brewery was renamed the Queen's Brewery and the original Queen's Brewery in Poulton-le-Fylde was closed. A new third Queen's Brewery was built on Talbot Road in Blackpool in 1927. The brewery in Hardhorn ceased brewing but continued bottling Guinness until 1960. The Queen's Brewery in Blackpool was acquired by Northern Breweries Ltd in 1961. Northern Breweries Ltd were renamed Northern Breweries of Great Britain Ltd then United Breweries Ltd in 1962. United Breweries Ltd merged with Charrington & Co. Ltd in 1964 to form Charrington United Breweries Ltd who in turn merged with Bass, Mitchells & Butlers Ltd in 1967 to create Bass Charrington Ltd. Catterall & Swarbrick's brewery was closed by Bass Charrington Ltd in 1971. The Queen's Brewery on Talbot Road was demolished in 2000.
