Cannon Brewery Co Ltd ceramic jug dating from the 1920s. The Cannon Brewery was based in Clerkenwell, Greater London.

Cannon Brewery Co. Ltd ceramic jug dating from the 1920s. The Company was founded in Clerkenwell around 1720 by Rivers Dickinson. It was named the Cannon Brewery in 1751. By 1798 the business was trading as John Richard and Rivers Dickinson, and by 1818 as John Dickinson. The brewery was run as Gardner & Co. by 1823 and was known as William & Philip Gardner from 1828. In 1863 the business was owned by George Hanbury and Barclay Field and in 1876 it became the Cannon Brewery Co. It was registered as the Cannon Brewery Co. Ltd in 1895 with 110 public houses. The Company expanded in the early part of the 20th century acquiring four breweries. In 1912 it acquired Holt & Co. Marine Brewery of East Hern with 27 public houses, in 1923 it purchased Clutterbuck & Co. of Harrow with 84 tied houses, in 1924 it acquired Salter & Co. Ltd of Rickmansworth with 76 tied houses, and in 1927 it purchased Christie & Co. Ltd of Hoddesdon with 159 tied houses. The Cannon Brewery was acquired by Taylor, Walker & Co. Ltd in 1930 but brewing continued until 1955. It was converted into a distillery and bonded warehouse in 1959 and became known as Ind Coope (London) Ltd in 1960. After Ind Coope Ltd became part of Allied Breweries Ltd in 1961 the brewery buildings continued to be used, becoming the headquarters of Carlsberg-Tetley in the late 1990s. The buildings were redeveloped into residential properties in 2001. The manufacturer's mark states - Made in England Shelley
