Brutton, Mitchell, Toms Ltd tin tray dating from the 1950s. Brutton, Mitchell, Toms Ltd was primarily a brewing Company which was formed in 1937 when Mitchell, Toms & Co. Ltd of Chard, acquired Joseph Brutton & Sons Ltd of Yeovil. The Old Brewery in Yeovil became the centre of the Company's brewing activities whilst the Chard buildings were used as a bottling plant, storage facility, and for cider production. The Chard Cider Mill continued to manufacture until the 1960s. Charrington & Co. Ltd, later named Charrington United Breweries Ltd, acquired Brutton, Mitchell & Toms Ltd in 1960. Charrington's sold the 'Autumn Gold' brand name to the Taunton Cider Co. Ltd in the early 1960s, and closed both the brewing and cider businesses in 1965. The manufacturer's mark states - Reginald Corfield Ltd Lombard Road.London.S.W.19.
